Embracing the Courage to Continue

The 2027 theme, Embracing the Courage to Continue, invites us to reflect on what it means to continue the work of justice, compassion, and community in a world that continues to change. Continuing that work requires more than determination; it calls for resilience, vulnerability, healing, and the courage to recognize the importance of caring for ourselves and one another along the way.

This year’s program will feature Chamique Holdsclaw, Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer, Olympic Gold Medalist, WNBA icon, USA Sports broadcaster, and champion for mental wellness and breaking stigma.

One of the most accomplished figures in women’s basketball, Holdsclaw has used her platform far beyond the court. During her Hall of Fame induction, she spoke candidly about mental health, struggle, recovery, and the importance of seeking support- using one of the biggest stages in sports to help break down stigma and encourage more open conversations about mental and emotional well-being.

Through her story, Holdsclaw offers a powerful perspective on perseverance and the courage it takes to continue, particularly when continuing requires us to pause, seek support, heal, and care for ourselves and others.

As we gather in the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy, we invite our community to consider:

  • What does it take to keep moving forward?
  • Where do we find the courage to continue?
  • And how do we care for ourselves and one another as we do the work?

We welcome the Fort Wayne community to join us for this meaningful morning of reflection, connection, and inspiration as we honor Dr. King’s legacy and consider what it means to embrace the courage to continue.
